I had heard of Ash Wednesday before, but up until this last Wednesday, I had never seen people with the actual ash on their heads from a morning Mass on Ash Wednesday. I feel very naive, on the one hand. I just simply didn't know about it, and was working when I saw people coming in with what turned out to be ash smudges on their foreheads. While this is not part of my own particular belief, I am so happy to be part of a society where many beliefs are allowed to be practiced and expressed. This is the way it should be. I am sharing a piece of art with you here, that is a depiction of Ash Wedesday.
